The Full Self-Driving (FSD), Tesla’s autopilot system, caused a real headache for the driver after ignoring a school bus unloading signal.
The scene was recorded by the dashcam of a police cruiser in Hingham, Massachusetts (USA), and shared in a Facebook post.
On the occasion, a red Tesla was seen driving past while a school bus had its stop sign extended as children were being dropped off on the opposite side of the street.
Upon witnessing the incident, the officer immediately activated the siren and began pursuing the Tesla, forcing the driver to stop. Fortunately, no children were crossing, but the driver was still fined for the violation.
“Reminder: even if a car has a driver assistance feature or autonomous driving option, the driver must still pay attention to what’s happening on the road,” the police warned in the post.
It’s worth noting that the Full Self-Driving mode is under investigation by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for dozens of safety violations and crashes involving Teslas reported across the country.
Federal authorities stated that the system has, at times, run red lights or directed vehicles into oncoming lanes, raising concerns about whether the software correctly recognizes hazards or road markings.
The NHTSA investigation covers Model S and Model X units from 2016 to 2025, the Model 3 from 2017 to 2026, the Model Y from 2020 to 2026, and the entire Cybertruck lineup.
